This Holiday Season make them green with envy, by getting a little creative with your beauty routine. Try on a bright eye shadow you’ve been meaning to for some time. Give an alternate lip color (besides the token “Holiday Red” lipstick) a try. Paint or stick on one of the many artistic nail patterns we have been seeing every where this year.
To help you get started here are a few of my favorite looks, hues, and products to get you started.
Eye Shadow Alternatives:
Green eye shadow is a gorgeous alternative to the bland safe colors we see every holiday season. It’s a great shade on any skin tone and if worn correctly, your eye color will pop. Just remember that bright green shadows tend to look a little cartoonish, a great tip is to mix the green eye shadow with a complimentary color such as gold. Follow my guide below to select the correct hue for your skin tone.
- Fair skin tone: A true bright green eye shadow will look great on your skin tone like the MAC Eye Shadow in Swimming, $15. This is best paired with a gold like MAC Eye Shadow in Gorgeous Gold or Sable, $15.
- Medium skin tone: Try a gold that’s more muted with gold shimmer. You will love Laura Mercier Eye Colour in Sherazade, $22. Paires well with Laura Mercier Eye Colour in Guava.
- Dark skin tone: An olive green color with look gorgeous on your skin tone. Swipe on Make Up For Ever Eye shadow in Dark Emerald Green Shimmer, $20. Pair this with deep black eyeliner on the upper and lower water line.
Not feeling quite daring enough to try on a bold shadow, then opt for a colored eyeliner. Lining your upper lids or lower water line with a bold eye liner will have the same effect as a bright eye shadow. It will still be an attention grabber. Try on these: NARS Eyeliner Abbey Road, $23, Cover Girl Eyeliner in Cobalt Blue, $10, or MAC Eyeliner in Minter or Permaplum, $15.
Lip Color Alternatives:
Move over Red, the new “IT” color is Tangerine Orange Lips. It’s both and exotic and friendly color and a hue that looks great on every skin tone. Here are a few shades for every skin tone.
- Fair skin tone: Choose a color that’s bright orange with red undertones like NARS Semi-Matte Lipstick in Heat Wave, $24.
- Medium skin tone: Go for a color that’s more burnt orange like Revlon’s ColorBurst Lip Butter in Candy Apple, $6.
- Dark skin tone: Look for a color that’s blue-orange based, such as Bobbi Brown Lip Color in Orange, $25.
Let’s Get Cheeky:
Fuchia Blush, that’s right, dab on a fuchia blush this holiday season. It blends beautifully on all skin tones, but will give you a soft bright fresh look. You don’t want to overdo it so make sure you blend well and only use a touch of color. I love Make Up For Ever Powder Blush in Neon Pink 75, $19 or MAC Blush in Swoon or Frankly Scarlet, $20.
How to apply you ask?
- Fair to medium skin tone: Apply a lightly on the apples of your cheeks, it should appear as a natural flush.
- Darker skin tones: On darker skin tones this color can be applied a little more liberally it will blend well and look gorgeous on.
